MINNEAPOLIS -- Melanie Leveille (SR, Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) scored the game-winning goal with 1:26 remaining in the third period, giving Hamline University a 3-2 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday evening at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Jess Olson (SR, Delano, Minn./Wayzata HS) and
Jessica Larkin (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) scored goals for Augsburg, but Hamline scored twice in the final 4:45 to claim the victory on the road.
Hamline (5-10-2 overall, 2-7-1 MIAC) outshot Augsburg (1-14-2 overall, 1-7-2 MIAC) by a 32-25 margin. Augsburg goalie
Grace Edgar (JR, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS), making her third appearance in goal this season, had 29 saves, while Amanda Plumm (JR, Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) had 23 saves for the Pipers.
Augsburg opened the scoring with Olson's fourth goal of the season, assisted by
Erin Leyden (JR, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS), at the 11:49 mark of the first period. Hamline tied the game at the 11:03 mark of the second period, as Erin Kastner (SO, Faribault, Minn.) scored from Leveille.
The Auggies took the lead halfway through the third period, as Larkin scored her first collegiate goal, on assists from
Kressi Lehn (FY, Rogers, Minn.) and Leyden. But the Pipers scored twice in a 3:19 span to take the victory, as Haley Johnson (FY, Bemidji, Minn.) scored at the 15:15 mark, and Leveille scored at the 18:31 mark.
Augsburg had a power play in the final minute and pulled its goalie for an extra skater, but could not get the game-tying shot in the net.
Both teams return to MIAC play next weekend, as Augsburg faces St. Mary's and Hamline faces St. Benedict.
