HANCOCK, Mich. --
Nick Guran (SO, McHenry, Ill./McHenry East HS) scored two first-period goals, leading the Augsburg College men's hockey team to its fifth straight victory with a 4-1 triumph over host Finlandia University in a nonconference game on Tuesday evening at the Houghton County Arena.
Joel Sauer (JR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) and
Kris Reinthaler (FY, Graz, Austria/Spring Creek Academy (Texas) HS) had a goal and assist each, and
Jim Jensen (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) had two assists for Augsburg (7-3-1 overall), which won its fifth straight game and extended its unbeaten streak to six straight games (5-0-1).
Nate Pellegrino (FY, Woodlyn, Penn./Lawrence Central HS) stopped 31 shots in goal to pick up the victory, as Augsburg outshot Finlandia (2-9-0 overall) by a 33-32 margin.
The Auggies built a 3-0 lead after two periods, including two power-play goals. Guran opened the scoring with an even-strength goal from Sauer and
David Hines (SO, Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) at the 6:26 mark of the opening period, then scored his second goal of the game, and sixth of the year, on the power play from Reinthaler 10 minutes later.
Reinthaler scored a power-play goal from Jensen and
Tyler Antony (SR, Buffalo, Minn.) four minutes into the second period to give the Auggies a 3-0 lead.
Finlandia scored at the 16:41 mark of the third period, as Derek Rodgers scored a power-play goal from Quinn McIntosh and Eric Schultz, but Sauer capped the scoring for the Auggies with a goal from Jensen with 48 seconds left in the game.
Ryan Donovan had 29 saves in goal for Finlandia.
Augsburg returns to action this weekend with a pair of nonconference games, hosting Wisconsin-Stout on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena, and hosting St. Olaf in a non-league game on Saturday at the Buffalo Civic Center in Buffalo, Minn.
