HANCOCK, Mich. --
Katie Lamirande (FY, Cloquet, Minn.) and
Devon Ellena (FY, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, but a Finlandia University goal with 38 seconds remaining in the contest gave the Lions a 3-2 win in a nonconference women's hockey game on Friday afternoon at the Houghton County Arena.
Alisha Ellertson scored from Chelsea Pollard at the 19:22 mark for the Lions (4-10-0), giving them the opening victory in the weekend series with the Auggies (1-8-2 overall). The teams will complete the series on Saturday (1/9) at 1 p.m. in Hancock.
Lamirande opened the scoring for the Auggies with her second goal of the year, a power-play marker assisted by
Jess Olson (SR, Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS), at the 3:10 mark of the opening period. The Lions took the lead with back-to-back goals, late in the first period by Kate Matanich and early in the second period by Morgan Tersigni.
Augsburg tied the game at 2-2 at the 2:05 mark of the second period, as Ellena scored her first collegiate goal, assisted by
Jenna Knudtson (JR, Austin, Minn.) and
Kressi Lehn (FY, Rogers, Minn.).
Augsburg outshot Finlandia by a 27-26 margin, with
Toni Menth (SR, Buffalo, Minn.) collecting 23 saves for the Auggies and Stephanie LaMore collecting 25 saves for the Lions.
