GAME BOXSCORE
DULUTH, Minn. -- For the sixth time this season, the Augsburg College women's soccer team went to overtime. And for the second time, the Auggies were edged on a goal in the final two minutes of an overtime period.
On Tuesday, the College of St. Scholastica handed the Auggies a narrow defeat, as a goal with 1:51 left in the second overtime was the difference in a 2-1 nonconference decision.
"Another OT loss, our third this year," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre, whose team's 4-8-3 overall record includes a 0-3-3 record in overtime games. "St. Scholastica is a solid program and they put us under some pressure in the second OT, and got a great strike to win in the final minutes."
Bri Dorale (SO, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) put the Auggies on the board with a goal from
Devon Ellena (SO, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) in the 12th minute. But the Saints (10-4-1 overall) tied the game in the 50th minute, as Nicole Brandt scored from Kaylee Gombold.
"We played the best soccer of the year in the first half, but unfortunately gave up a bad goal to start the second," Navarre said. "We had control of the game, getting a great goal from
Bri Dorale. Unfortunately we didn't find the second goal we needed."
Andrea Beatt scored the game-winning goal, from Gombold, at the 108:09 mark in the second overtime.
St. Scholastica outshot Augsburg by an 18-11 margin. Auggie goalkeeper
Katie Gajewski (FY, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) had seven saves in the game.
The Auggies return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday (10/22) at 7:30 p.m., hosting Hamline at Edor Nelson Field.
"Another tough loss. We will regroup and be ready to go on Friday against Hamline," Navarre said.
