ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- Behind 12 kills from
Katie Christensen (SR, North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) and 42 assists from
Emily McCourt (FY, Sun Prairie, Wis.) the Augsburg College volleyball team closed out its season with a four-set win in a non-conference match against Northwestern College on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Augsburg (16-14 overall) finishes its third consecutive season with a winning record.
The Auggies controlled the match from the start, overwhelming Northwestern (25-12 overall) in the first set 25-20, behind four service aces and a .168 hitting percentage. Augsburg continued its solid play in the second set, leading wire to wire en route to a 25-20 win.
After dropping the third set 14-25, Augsburg responded with a 25-16 win in the match's fourth and final game.
For the match, Augsburg hit .213, while recording eight blocks and eight service aces.
Colleen Ourada (FY, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) led the Augsburg offensive attack, recording 13 kills, while teammates
Amanda Unze (SO, Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS) and
Nikolene Miller (SO, Tomahawk, Wis.) each recorded nine kills in the match.
Augsburg defensive specialist
Jessica Hilk (SR, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) recorded 23 digs, and added two aces in the match.
Today's match marked the final career contest for Augsburg seniors Christensen, Hilk,
Denielle Johnson (SR, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) and
Erin Jugasek (SR, Big Lake, Minn.).
