GAME BOXSCORE
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. --
Rachel Nelson (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal for Augsburg College early in the second half, but the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire broke a 1-1 tie with a goal six minutes later in a 2-1 decision over the Auggies in a nonconference women's soccer game on Wednesday afternoon at UW-EC's Bollinger Fields.
Nelson notched her first goal of the season, assisted by
Courtney Gamrath (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and
Bri Dorale (SO, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS), in the 48th minute, to tie the game at 1-1. But Allie Stone scored the go-ahead goal for the Blugolds in the 54th minute. Kara Ryan put the Blugolds on the scoreboard with a goal in the 20th minute.
"A disappointing loss. We played better soccer today but did not come away with a result," said Augsburg head coach
Mike Navarre, whose team fell to 3-6-2 overall.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the No. 5-ranked team in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III North Region poll, is now 10-2-0 overall.
Augsburg was outshot by a 15-10 margin in the contest. Auggie goalkeeper
Katie Gajewski (FY, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) had seven saves, while Blugold goalkeeper Amanda Hakala had six saves.
"Rachel did well to come of the bench and get her first collegiate goal, and fellow first-year
Katie Gajewski was solid all game in goal, except for a positioning decision on the game-winner," Navarre said.
Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday (10/9) with a contest at Concordia-Moorhead.
"Despite the outcome, we will take some positives away from this game and use it to help motivate us for our big conference game at Concordia on Saturday," Navarre said.
