Grace Edgar (SR, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS) collected 28 saves in goal for Augsburg College, but the University of St. Thomas used a three-goal second period to claim a 4-0 victory in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Nine different Tommies (1-2-0 overall, 1-0-0 MIAC) figured in the scoring, as St. Thomas outshot Augsburg (0-4-0 overall, 0-1-0 MIAC) by a 32-17 margin, including a 24-9 advantage in the final two periods.
Taylor Schluter (JR, Minnetonka, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret HS) and Jamie Tiede (JR, Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman HS) scored goals 1:28 apart early in the second period, with Kaylee Keys (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) following with a goal late in the period. Maria Bothwell (FY, North St. Paul, Minn.) scored for the Tommies midway through the third period.
Jenna Knudtson (SR, Austin, Minn.) and
Katie Lamirande (SO, Cloquet, Minn.) had three shots each for the Auggies, while
Erica Berthold (SO, Issaquah, Wash.) and
Erin Leyden (SR, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) had two shots apiece.
Alise Riedel (FY, Hudson, Wis.) stopped all 17 shots she faced in goal for the shutout win for the Tommies.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (11/13) at 2 p.m. at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.
