Justin Lochner (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn.) collected 32 saves in goal for Augsburg College, but the University of St. Thomas used a three-goal second period as they claimed a 4-0 victory in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Saturday night at Ed Saugestad Rink.
After a hard fought scoreless first period, St. Thomas was able to record a three-goal second period, with goals by Rob Philipp (JR, Thief River Falls, Minn.), Evan Mackintosh (SR, San Jose, Calif.), and Tim Kuzniar (FY, Lakeville, Minn.). Augsburg had two power play attempts in the period but was unable to convert on either.
The two teams played scoreless hockey in the third period until the 19:34 mark when St. Thomas's Rob Johnson (SR, Duluth, Minn.) was able to score an empty net goal at the 19:34 mark to claim the win over the Auggies.
Kris Reinthaler (SO, Graz, Austria) led Augsburg with five shots, while
Scott Eberline (FY, Novi, Mich.) and
Tedd Falk (JR, Mequon, Wis.) had four shots apiece.
With the loss, Augsburg falls to 2-3-1 overall (0-2-0 MIAC), while St. Thomas moves to 4-2-0 overall (2-0-0 MIAC). Augsburg returns to action next weekend with a road series at Concordia-Wisconsin.
