OZAUKEE, Wis. --
Nick Guran (JR, McHenry, Ill./McHenry East HS) and
Mario Mjelleli (SR, Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) had a goal and assist apiece, leading the Augsburg College men's hockey team to a 5-2 nonconference victory over Concordia University-Wisconsin on Friday evening at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
Guran scored his eighth goal of the season for Augsburg (3-3-1 overall), a total that currently is tied for the most goals in the nation in NCAA Division III men's hockey, according to the
Collegehockeystats.net website.
Joel Sauer (SR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) had two assists, giving him nine on the season -- tied for the second-most assists among Division III players nationally.
Trailing 2-1 late in the second period, the Auggies scored four unanswered goals, including three third-period goals, to score the victory. Guran tied the game with a goal at the 16:20 mark of the second period, and
Trevor Doden (JR, Red Wing, Minn.) and
John Lennartson (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) scored goals 44 seconds apart early in the third period.
Derek Loisel (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn.) capped the scoring with his first collegiate goal at the 16:21 mark of the final frame.
Joseph Greg Douglas scored both goals for Concordia-Wisconsin (1-8-0 overall). The Auggies went 3-for-5 on power plays in the game, while Concordia was 1-for-4 on its power plays.
Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 43-23 margin, including a 28-13 advantage in the final two periods. John Zitur (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) claimed 21 saves for the win for the Auggies in goal, while Everett Devlin had 38 saves for Concordia.
The teams complete the nonconference series on Saturday (11/20) at 2 p.m. in Ozaukee.
