Auggies shine in sweep of Concordia

OZAUKEE, Wis. -- Jim Jensen (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) had a goal and two assists, leading Augsburg College to a 6-0 victory over Concordia University-Wisconsin in a nonconference men's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

Six different Auggie players scored goals, and 10 Auggies figured in the scoring, as Augsburg (4-3-1 overall) scored the win to complete the nonconference series sweep of Concordia-Wisconsin (1-9-0 overall). On the weekend, 14 different Auggies figured in the scoring, as the Auggies outscored the Falcons by an 11-2 margin.

Goalie Justin Lochner (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) stopped all 13 shots he faced to pick up his first shutout of the season and second of his college career. Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 47-13 margin in the game.

Two Auggies continued their assaults on the national statistics with scores on Saturday. Nick Guran (JR, McHenry, Ill./McHenry East HS) scored his ninth goal of the season, and with a goal and assist, Joel Sauer (SR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) claimed his 10th assist of the year.

According to the Collegehockeystats.net website through Saturday afternoon's play, Guran's nine goals are the most of any NCAA Division III men's hockey player nationally, while Sauer's 10 assists are tied for the most nationally. Both Guran and Sauer have 13 points on the season, tied for second-most nationally.

Two Auggie first-year players scored their first collegiate goals on Saturday, as Scott Eberline (FY, Novi, Mich.) lit the lamp at the 13:09 mark of the second period and #B.J. McClellan# (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored at the 13:43 mark of the third period.

Jensen notched his third goal of the season, a power-play marker at the 12:35 mark of the third period, the first of an Auggie three-goal outburst in a 3:21 span. McClellan followed Jensen's goal, and Guran capped the scoring at the 15:56 mark.

Bryan Frischmann (SR, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) put the Auggies on the board with a goal at the 5:55 mark of the first period, followed at the 9:57 mark by Sauer's third goal of the year.

Jensen, Mario Mjelleli (SR, Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS), Kris Reinthaler (SO, Graz, Austria/Spring Creek Academy (Texas) HS) and Trevor Doden (JR, Red Wing, Minn.) had two assists apiece for the Auggies.

Everett Devlin had 41 saves in goal for Concordia-Wisconsin.

Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play after the Thanksgiving break with a two-game series against St. John's on Dec. 3-4.
