Grzesiak-Grimm leads Auggies in win at Central

BOXSCORE

PELLA, Iowa -- Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (JR, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) recorded a game- and season-high 20 points to lead the Augsburg College men's basketball team to a 62-60 nonconference win over Central College on Tuesday night.

After trailing 33-26 at the half, the Auggies (2-0 overall) used a 64-percent (16-of-25) shooting performance in the second half to overcome the Dutch (2-2 overall). A tied score at 60-60 and 2:16 left on the clock, gave both teams opportunities down the stretch but free throws by Grzesiak-Grimm and Tyler Schmidt (SO, Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson HS) proved to be the difference and sealed the win for the Auggies.

Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was Cory Polta (JR, Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS), who finished with 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Brett Sorenson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) continued to lead the Auggies defensively, pacing Augsburg with three steals.

Central finished with four players in double figures, led by Brock Caves (JR, Douds, Iowa/Van Buren HS) with 14 points and five rebounds.

Augsburg outshot Central 53.1 percent (26-of-49) to 46.2 percent (24-of-52) but was edged in the battle on the boards 36-23.

Augsburg returns to action over the Thanksgiving weekend when it travels to Lincoln, Neb. to take part in the Nebraska Wesleyan University Snyder Classic. The Auggies will face Westminster (Mo.) on Friday (11/26) at 5:30 p.m. and will face the winner of Nebraska Wesleyan/Presentation (S.D.) on Saturday (11/27) at either 5:30 or 7:30 p.m.
