Josh Roberts (SO, Grand Forks, N.D./Central HS) and
Tony Valek (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn./Scott West) claimed wins over ranked opponents, but their Augsburg College wrestling team dropped a 25-6 decision to Augustana College (S.D.) in a dual meet on Wednesday night at Augustana's Elmen Center.
Augustana, the No. 3-ranked team in the NCAA Division II national rankings, scored wins in eight of 10 bouts to top defending Division III national champion Augsburg (0-1), the No. 1-ranked team in Division III.
At 125 pounds, Roberts, the No. 2-ranked wrestler in Division III, rallied from a 6-1, second-period deficit to Augustana's No. 5-ranked Al Meger, with two escapes and two takedowns to score a 7-6 victory,
At 149, No. 2-ranked Valek scored all four points in the third period, on an escape, takedown and 1:41 of riding time, to claim a 4-0 win over Augustana's No. 3-ranked Nate Herda. Valek is now 5-0 on the season.
The young Auggies, with no seniors, three sophomores and a first-year wrestler in the varsity lineup, stayed competitive with the host Vikings, wtih three losses by two points or less.

Jon Priess (SO, Waconia, Minn.) stayed close with Augustana's No. 2-ranked Marcus Edgington, falling 3-2. At 184, Augsburg's
Jackson Mboma (JR, Maple Grove, Minn.) was edged 3-2 by Augustana's Brian Schultz. At 141, Augustana's top-ranked Jay Sherer scored a 10-8, back-and-forth win over Augsburg's
Nathan Lexvold (JR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS).
Augsburg returns to action next Saturday (12/4) at 9 a.m. at the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragon Open.
