Augsburg beats Northwestern in home-opener

MINNEAPOLIS -- Tracee Schrank (SO, Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg HS) scored a game- and career-high 20 points to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 70-62 victory over Northwestern College-Roseville on Tuesday night in the Auggies' 2010-11 home-opener at Si Melby Hall.

Schrank connected on 7-of-12 from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the three-point arc and added seven rebounds and one steal to lead Augsburg (1-2 overall). Brittany Dyshaw (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) led the Auggies on the boards, collecting a season-high 11 rebounds and adding eight points and two steals.

Northwestern (1-5 overall) was led by Katie DeWitt and Megan Myhre. Myhre posted 15 points and 12 rebounds, while DeWitt collected 16 points and six rebounds.

After leading 26-24 at the half, the Auggies put together one of their best halves of basketball yet this season, connecting on 42.9 percent (15-of-35) of their shots. Augsburg used a 16-2 run over a three-and-a-half minute span during the middle of the second half to claim their largest lead of the season, an 18-point advantage. Northwestern was able to cut the Augsburg lead to single digits on two occasions, but the Auggies were able to come together and claim their first win of the season.

For the game, Augsburg outshot Northwestern 39.1 percent (27-of-69) to 37.3 percent (25-of-67) and out-rebounded the Eagles 52-45. The Augsburg bench also had a good night, outscoring the Northwestern bench 24-8.

Augsburg returns to action tomorrow night (12/1) when it hosts St. Mary's University in its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-opener.
