MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College attempted a late rally, but a College of St. Benedict goal with 2:22 left in the third period provided the lone scoring in a 1-0 Blazer victory over the Auggies in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Christine Brodersen (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Breck HS) scored her first collegiate goal, an unassisted tally, at the 17:38 mark of the third period for St. Benedict (1-4-3 overall, 1-2-3 MIAC).
Augsburg (0-8-1 overall, 0-5-1 MIAC) goalie
Grace Edgar (SR, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS) collected 23 saves in goal, as the Blazers outshot the Auggies by a 24-21 margin.
The Auggies mounted a strong rally in the third period, outshooting the Blazers by a 14-7 margin. But none of the Auggies' shots got past St. Benedict goalie Kaitlyn Rolando (FY, Lake Elmo, Minn./Tartan HS), who picked up the win stopping all 21 shots she faced.
Erin Leyden (SR, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) had four shots on goal for the Auggies, while
Jeanna Dudley (SO, Lindenhurst, Ill./Lakes Community HS) had three shots.
Augsburg is now idle for the holiday break, and returns to action on Jan. 2-3 with a nonconference series against Finlandia (Mich.) at Ed Saugestad Rink. The Sunday, Jan. 2 game is at 4 p.m., and the Monday, Jan. 3 game is at 2 p.m.
