Auggies claim thriller over St. Mary's

MINNEAPOLIS -- Serenae Levine (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored a layup with three seconds left, giving  Augsburg the lead for good as it went on to claim a thrilling 69-67 win over St. Mary's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg (4-21 overall, 4-18 MIAC) was led by Tracee Schrank (FY, Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area HS), who scored a career-high 18 points and tied a game-high four steals. Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was Levine and Lexi Thompson (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), who scored 16 and 10 points respectively.

St. Mary's (5-18 overall, 4-18 MIAC) finished with four players in double figures, led by Jess Miller, who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds.

After trailing 42-33 at the half, Augsburg started the second session on an 8-3 run. The Auggies cut the Cardinal lead to under four on multiple occasions but didn't claim their first lead of the half until 1:39 mark when Schrank connected on a key three-pointer. St. Mary's retook the lead 65-63 off an old fashioned three-point play by Miller but Augsburg tied things back op on its next possession. A key steal by the Auggies led to a fastbreak layup by Thompson, putting Augsburg up 67-65 with 18 seconds remaining. The Cardinals converted on a pair of free throws to tie things back up but Augsburg's Levine scored on a layup with just three seconds left to give the Auggies a two point advantage. St. Mary's was able to take a timeout with one second on the left clock but was not able to get a shot off as Augsburg hung on for a 69-67 win.

Both Augsburg and St. Mary's concluded their seasons tonight with identical 4-18 MIAC records. With tonight's win Augsburg claimed its third consecutive season sweep over the Cardinals.
