MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Augsburg women's basketball team had its best shooting performance of the season (48.0 percent) but came up short in the second half as they fell to Concordia College 86-69 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Concordia's Memorial Auditorium.
Augsburg (3-17 overall, 3-14 MIAC) had five players finish in double figures led by
Micha Sater (FY, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), who finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Shannon Renne (JR, Nicollet, Minn.) and
Ashley Erickson (SO, Bemidji, Minn.) had 12 and 11 points respectively for the Auggies.
Concordia (14-6 overall, 13-4 MIAC) was led by the duo of Erica Nord and Tricia Sorensen, who had 25 and 22 points respectively.
Augsburg played great basketball in the first half, shooting 52.2 percent. The Auggies matched the Cobbers basket for basket and went into the locker room trailing 33-32 at the intermission. In the second half, Augsburg just couldn't keep pace as the Cobbers broke open a 41-41 tie at the 14:47 mark with a 10-0 run. The Auggies couldn't close the gap as Concordia went on to claim an 86-69 win.
For the game, Augsburg outshot Concordia 48.0 percent (24-of-50) to 44.8 percent (26-of-58) but the Auggies were outrebounded 40-26. Augsburg held a slight 18-19 advantage in turnovers but was outscored 34-18 in points in the paint.
Augsburg and Concordia both return to action on Saturday (2/6) with Augsburg hosting St. Olaf and Concordia traveling to St. Benedict.
