WINONA, Minn. -- #J.P. Perpich# (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and
Tedd Falk (SO, Mequon, Wis./Homestead HS) scored goals in the third period, rallying Augsburg College for a 5-4, come-from-behind victory over St. Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Friday evening at the SMU Ice Arena.
Nick Guran (SO, McHenry, Ill./McHenry East HS) had a goal and an assist, as 11 different Augsburg (12-7-1 overall, 5-5-1 MIAC) players figured in the scoring in the victory.
Ian McDougall (SR, Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS) and
Trevor Doden (SO, Red Wing, Minn.) recorded two assists apiece for the Auggies.
Blake Zematis had a goal and an assist for St. Mary's (1-18-1 overall, 1-10-0 MIAC), which outshot Augsburg by a 40-37 margin.
Augsburg rallied from a 3-1, second-period deficit to score the victory, tying the game 3-3 after two periods. Zematis put the Cardinals ahead with a power-play goal 1:33 into the third period, but Augsburg tied the game at the 7:34 mark, as Perpich scored from Guran and McDougall. Falk scored the winning goal for the Auggies at the 10:24 mark, assisted by Doden and
Tyler Antony (SR, Buffalo, Minn.).
Augsburg scored first in the game, as
Joel Sauer (JR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) scored a power-play goal from
David Hines (SO, Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) 3:06 into the game.
But St. Mary's scored the next three goals, with Tommy Healy scoring at the 14:51 mark of the first period, and Vincent Unklesbay and Ben Kitzmiller scoring in the second period to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead.
Augsburg tied the game with two goals in the second period, as
Mario Mjelleli (JR, Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) scoring from
Kris Reinthaler (FY, Graz, Austria/Spring Creek Academy (Texas) HS) and Doden at the 12:06 mark, and Guran scoring from McDougall and
Ben Roberts (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) at the 16:02 mark.
Nate Pellegrino (FY, Woodlyn, Pa./Lawrence Central HS) collected 36 saves to score the win in goal for the Auggies, while Jason Horstman took the loss for the Cardinals with 32 saves.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (2/6) at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
