ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (JR F/P 6-8 200 Wyoming, Minn. /St. Francis HS) scored a game- and season-high 22 points to lead the Augsburg College men's basketball team to a 66-57 win over Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at the Lenord Center.
Grzesiak-Grimm posted his 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor and 6-of-8 shooting from the charity stripe, while adding eight rebounds for Augsburg (9-4 overall, 4-4 MIAC). This game marked the third consecutive double-figure game for Grzesiak-Grimm. He has now scored in double-figures in 11 of this season's 13 games.
Also having solid performances for Augsburg were
Cory Polta (JR, Spring Lake Park, Minn.) and
Parker Hines (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy). Polta recorded a game-high 10 rebounds, including a career-high six offensive boards and scored eight points and two blocked shots. Hines collected a career-high nine rebounds and added six assists and five points.
Macalester (1-11 overall, 1-6 MIAC) was led by Kyle Hamblett, who finished the night with 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Augsburg held a 29-28 lead at the intermission and started the second half with a 17-2 run, stretching its lead to as many as 18 before the Scots could put together a rally of their own. Macalester was able to cut the Augsburg lead to 56-52 with 4:22 left to play but the Auggies were able to make the shots they needed down the stretch and claim the win.
For the game, Augsburg shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the floor, while Macalester connected on 41.9 percent (26-of-62) of its shots. The Auggies outrebound the Scots by a 40-28 margin and outscored MAC 34-24 in points in the paint.
Augsburg and Macalester both return to action on Saturday (1/15) with Augsburg hosting St. John's University and Macalester hosting St. Olaf College.
