Auggies fall at Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Joel Sauer (SR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) scored a second-period goal for Augsburg College, but the Auggies dropped a 4-1 decision to Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey contest on Saturday evening at Don Roberts Ice Rink.

Sauer scored his 10th goal of the season at the 9:47 mark of the second period, assisted by Jim Jensen (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS), for the Auggies (8-5-2 overall, 2-3-1 MIAC). Sauer currently stands second among MIAC players in total points with 23 (10 goals, 13 assists) and 22nd among all NCAA Division III players in points per-game (1.53), according to the Collegehockeystats.net website.

Zach May had two goals and an assist for Gustavus (10-5-2 overall, 4-2-2 MIAC), ranked No. 13 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online national poll. Ross Ring Jarvi had a goal and an assist for the Gusties, and Ryan Johnson scored the other Gustie goal.

Augsburg outshot Gustavus by a 37-27 margin. Justin Lochner (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) collected 23 saves in goal for the Auggies, while Josh Swartout had 36 saves for the Gusties.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play with a series against Concordia-Moorhead, with both games at Ed Saugestad Rink. Friday's (1/21) game is at 7:05 p.m., and Saturday's (1/22) game is at 2:05 p.m.
