WINONA, Minn. --
Brittany Dyshaw (SO, Eagan, Minn.) led a trio of Auggies scoring in double figures but it wasn't enough as the Augsburg College women's basketball team lost 74-62 to St. Mary's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at SMU Gym.
Dyshaw led Augsburg (3-12 overall, 2-10 MIAC) with 17 points, on an 8-of-15 shooting night, while adding five roubounds and a pair of blocks and steals. Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was
Lexi Thompson (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and
Brittany Zins (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS). Thompson finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Zins tied season-highs with 12 points and seven rebounds.
St. Mary's was led by Jamie Stefely, who came off the bench to score 21 points and grab 10 rebounds in posting her second double-double of the season.
Augsburg struggled offensively in the first half, but for the second consecutive game, was able to put together a solid second-half of basketball and outscore its opponent in the second frame. After trailing 37-24 at the intermission, Augsburg slowly chipped away at the Cardinal lead. The Auggies used a 6-0 run to cut the score to 48-42 but couldn't get any closer as St. Mary's countered with a 14-5 run to seal the victory for SMU.
For the game, Augsburg shot 33.8 percent (24-of-71) from the field, while the Cardinals connected on 42.4 percent (25-of-59) of their shots. St. Mary's outrebounded the Auggies 48-37 but Augsburg recorded a season-high nine blocked shots in the contest.
Augsburg and St. Mary's both return to action on Saturday (1/22) with Augsburg hosting St. Catherine University and St. Mary's hosting Gustavus Adolphus College in MIAC action.
