Kris Reinthaler (SO, Graz, Austria/Spring Creek Academy (Texas) HS) and #B.J. McClellan# (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, but Concordia College-Moorhead claimed a 3-2 win over the Auggies in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Mark Johnson (JR, Bloomington, Minn.) had a goal and assist for Concordia (8-8-3 overall, 4-3-3 MIAC), which completed a weekend sweep of Augsburg (8-7-2 overall, 2-5-1 MIAC). Brian Kang (SO, Vancouver, B.C.) and Pat Deitz (SO, Moorhead, Minn.) also scored goals for the Cobbers.
Reinthaler opened the scoring for the Auggies with a goal from McClellan and
Tim Serratore (FY, Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek HS) at the 1:59 mark of the second period, but Johnson tied the game for the Cobbers at the 3:20 mark, assisted by Joe Becker (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) and Aaron Wheeler (SO, Moorhead, Minn.). Kang put the Cobbers on top with a goal from Johnson and Erick Galt (JR, Fargo, N.D.) at the 11:13 mark of the second period.
The Cobbers went ahead 3-2 with Dietz's goal from Galt with 2:57 left to play. The Auggies cut the lead again just 23 seconds later, as McClellan scored from
Joel Sauer (SR, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) and
Jim Jensen (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS).
Concordia outshot Augsburg by a 32-25 margin, with Kelly Andrew (FY, Calgary, Alberta) collecting 23 saves in goal for the win for the Cobbers.
Justin Lochner (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 29 saves in goal for the Auggies.
Both teams return to action next weekend with MIAC series, as Augsburg faces Hamline and Concordia faces St. John's.
