NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- John Lennartson (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) scored two third-period goals, and Mario Mjelleli (SR, Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) scored the game-winning goal 1:40 into overtime, as Augsburg College rallied for a 3-2 win over St. Olaf College in a nonconference men's hockey game on Saturday night at the Northfield Ice Arena.
Trailing 2-0 midway through the third period, Lennartson scored an unassisted goal at the 12:55 mark, then scored from Nikki Holt (SR, Hermantown, Minn.) at the 16:49 mark to tie the game.
Augsburg (8-4-1 overall) gained the win at the 1:40 mark of overtime, as Mjelleli scored his fourth goal of the season, assisted by #B.J. McClellan# (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and Trevor Doden (JR, Red WIng, Minn.).
Derek Grogan and Isak Tranvik scored first-period goals for St. Olaf (5-6-3 overall), which outshot Augsburg by a 32-29 margin.
Jon Zitur (JR, Buffalo, Minn.), who relieved starter Justin Lochner (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) in goal for the Auggies in the second period, stopped all 22 shots he faced to score the win. Lochner had eight saves in the first period. Ben Leis had 26 saves for St. Olaf.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play next weekend with a series against Gustavus, with Friday's (1/14) game at 7:05 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink and Saturday's (1/15) game at 7 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
