Auggies score 2-1 win over Oles

BOXSCORE BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS -- Carly Reimer (JR, Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) headed home the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute, giving Augsburg College a 2-1 victory over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Tuesday evening at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Bri Clark (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) scored for Augsburg (6-6-1 overall, 3-2-1 MIAC) in the third minute, and Courtney Gamrath (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) assisted on both goals for the Auggies.

Deanne Schmidt (SR, Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East HS) scored in the 29th minute for St. Olaf (8-2-3 overall, 4-1-2 MIAC), which entered the game leading the conference standings with 14 points. The Oles are ranked third in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III West Region poll, released on Tuesday afternoon.

"A great win," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "St. Olaf is one of the best teams in the country. We played well and got two nice goals off set pieces. I was proud of the effort tonight."

Both Auggie goals came on headers following corner kicks. Just 2:28 into the game, Clark scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season following a corner kick by Gamrath. Lindsey Niederhaus (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) served the ball to Clark, who headed it for the first goal of the game.

The eventual game-winner followed another Gamrath corner kick. Gamrath fed the ball to Bri Dorale (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS), who passed it back to Gamrath for a service to the top of the six-yard box. Reimer leaped high to head the ball home for her first goal of the season.

Augsburg was outshot by a 13-8 margin by St. Olaf, including a 9-5 margin in the first half. Katie Gajewski (SO, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) collected five saves in goal for the Auggies, while Nora Forbes (SO, Edina, Minn.) had two saves in goal for St. Olaf.

St. Olaf's goal came in the 29th minute, also off a corner kick. Anna Theis (JR, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) served the ball into the six-yard box, and Schmidt emerged from a scramble in front to score her third goal of the season.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Saturday (10/15) at 6 p.m., hosting Gustavus at Edor Nelson Field.

"Now we will look to take this positive energy and build upon it in our next game on Saturday against Gustavus," Navarre said.
