Auggies edged 3-2 in overtime

BLAINE, Minn. -- George Jackson (FY, Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley HS) and Trevor Doden (SR, Red Wing, Minn.) scored goals for Augsburg College, but the Auggies were edged 3-2 in overtime by Hamline University in the final game of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Showcase men's hockey event on Sunday afternoon at Fogerty Arena.

Jackson scored his first collegiate goal, an unassisted tally, just 2:54 into the game for Augsburg (1-1-0 overall), but Hamline's (2-0-0) Cameron Stowers tied the game late in the first period on a power-play goal.

Doden scored his second goal of the season, a power-play goal, 58 seconds into the second period on assists from Ben McClellan (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and #B.J. McClellan# (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS).

Nick Widing scored two power-play goals for the Pipers to score the victory, a tally with 55 seconds left in the second period and the game-winner at the 3:32 mark of overtime.

Hamline, ranked No. 10 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online Division III national poll, outshot Augsburg by a 33-27 margin. Justin Lochner (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) claimed 30 saves for Augsburg, while Beau Christian had 25 saves for Hamline.

Augsburg returns to action next weekend with two nonconference games in Wisconsin -- at Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday (11/4) at 7 p.m., and at defending national champin St. Norbert (Wis.) on Saturday (11/5) at 7 p.m.
