HANCOCK, Mich. --
Jessica Larkin (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and
Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) each scored two goals and added an assist, leading the Augsburg College women's hockey team to a 5-2 victory over host Finlandia University in a nonconference contest on Sunday afternoon at the Houghton County Arena.
Larkin put the Auggies (1-0-1 overall) on the scoreboard with a goal halfway through the first period, added an assist on a goal in the second period and scored her second goal on a power play in the third period.
Hennessy scored in both the second and third periods, while assisting on Larkin's third-period goal.
Making her first collegiate start in goal, Briana Schulz (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) made 23 saves to pick up the victory for the Auggies, who outshot Finlandia (0-1-1 overall) by a 32-25 margin, including a 25-14 advantage in the final two periods.
Larkin opened the scoring for the Auggies with a goal from
Erica Berthold (JR, Issaquah, Wash.) at the 10:47 mark of the first period. Finlandia took the lead with two goals in a 17-second span -- a power-play goal by Siera Hache at the 16:08 mark and a goal by Brittany Knopp at the 16:25 mark.
Augsburg tied the game on Hennessy's first goal of the game, assisted by
Sara Rajewsky (FY, Murdock, Minn./Benson HS), at the 9:01 mark of the second period.
Kendall Christian (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) gave the Auggies the lead on a goal from Berthold and Larkin at the 15:47 mark.
The Auggies added to the lead in the third period, as Larkin scored from Hennessy and Rajewsky at the 8:13 mark, and Hennessy capped the scoring from
Diana Bocklund (JR, Pine Springs, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) and Rajewsky at the 15:03 mark.
Ashley Pavlish had 27 saves in goal for Finlandia.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Nov. 11-12 with a series against St. Catherine.
