Auggies score 4-1 win over Cougars

BOXSCORE BOXSCORE

MORRIS, Minn. -- Claiming a 22-5 advantage in shots, the Augsburg College women's soccer team scored a 4-1 victory over the University of Minnesota-Morris in a nonconference game on Tuesday afternoon at UMM's Cougar Field.

Olivia Muyres (FY, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS), Courtney Gamrath (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), Bri Clark (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) and Brooke Vroman (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) scored goals for Augsburg (5-5-1 overall).

Taylor Becker (SR, Red Wing, Minn.), making her first start of the season in goal, collected one save to earn the victory.

"It was a solid effort for the most part. We moved the ball well and got better as they game went on, which is encouraging," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Taylor Becker was solid in net for us, as she managed the game well and helped us circulate the ball in the back."

Muyres scored her fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute for the Auggies, scoring from Clark and Bri Felton (FY, Fridley, Minn.). In the 13th minute, the Auggies took a 2-0 lead as Gamrath scored an unassisted goal, her second goal of the year.

After Katie Kestner scored off a corner kick by Zoe Bergstrom in the 42nd minute for Minnesota-Morris (6-5-0 overall), the Auggies scored twice in the second half to clinch the win. Clark scored her team-best seventh goal of the season in the 54th minute, and Vroman scored her first collegiate goal with 20 seconds to play in the contest.

RiAnne Metz had 10 saves in goal for Minnesota-Morris.

Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday (10/8) at 1 p.m., traveling to Northfield, Minn., to face Carleton.

"This concludes our nonconference games, so now we return our focus to the MIAC and try to prepare for a strong finish," Navarre said. "Carleton will undoubtedly be ready for us on Saturday. Carleton won the league last year and returns several great players. Both teams are looking to be among the best in the league -- should be an exciting game!"
