Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) and
Kendall Christian (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) scored goals for Augsburg College, but the Auggies dropped a 4-2 decision to St. Catherine University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Megan Killmer (FY, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) scored two goals for St. Catherine (3-1-0 overall, 1-1-0 MIAC), while Kallie Geissler (JR, Elk River, Minn.) and Cassie Rooney (SR, Plymouth, Minn.) also scored goals for the Wildcats. Kayla Clafton (SR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Kelsey Abrahamson (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) had two assists each.
Kilmer scored twice for the Wildcats -- a power-play goal at the 19:13 mark of the first period and at the 12:14 mark of the second period. Augsburg cut into the lead with Christian's second goal of the season, a power-play marker at the 15:53 mark of the second period. St. Catherine went ahead on a power-play goal from Geissler at the 11:08 mark of the third period, but Hennessy again cut the lead to one goal with an unassisted marker at the 15:51 mark of the final frame, her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Rooney capped the scoring with an empty-net goal in the closing seconds.
St. Catherine outshot Augsburg by a 29-22 margin.
Brianna Schulz (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) had 25 saves for Augsburg, while Samantha Geissler (FY, Elk River, Minn.) had 20 saves for the Wildcats.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play with a two-game series against St. Benedict. Next Friday's (11/18) game is at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud, Minn., while next Saturday's (11/19) game is at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink. St. Catherine faces St. Mary's in a two-game series next weekend.
