ASHLAND, Wis. --
Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (SR, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) led all scorers with 16 points as the hot-shooting Augsburg College men's basketball team began its regular season with a 76-46 win over Northland College in nonconference action at Kendrigan Gymnasium.
Augsburg (1-0 overall) shot 56.6 percent (30-of-51) from the floor for the game, while holding Northland College (0-2) to just 40.0 percent (20-of-50). Twelve Auggies saw action in the game, including three who finished in double -figures. Grzesiak-Grimm led the way offensively, finishing 7-of-10 from the floor, while adding five rebounds and a steal.
Cory Polta (SR, Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) also had a solid night for the Auggies, finishing with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, while adding nine rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.
Andy Seidlitz (SO, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) finished the night with 10 points (4-of-5 shooting) and a career-high seven rebounds.
The Auggies began the game on 11-0 run and never looked back, maintaining control from start to finish. For the game, Augsburg outshot and outrebounded the LumberJacks. The Auggies converted on an impressive 56.6 percent of their shots, making it Augsburg's best shooting night since a 60.3 percent shooting effort against Loras (Iowa) on Nov. 20, 2009. Augsburg claimed a 36-27 advantage on the boards and was able to get to the free-throw line 25 times, compared to just eight attempts for the LumberJacks.
Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 when the Auggies travel to North Central (Minn.). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
