Tim Serratore (SO, Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek HS) had a goal and an assist for Augsburg College, but the Auggies dropped a 5-3 decision to host St. John's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey contest on Saturday evening at the National Hockey Center.
Augsburg (3-4-0 overall, 1-1-0 MIAC) could not overcome a 5-0, second-period deficit to St. John's (2-4-1 overall, 1-3-0 MIAC), though the Auggies scored the final three goals of the game.
Ben McClellan (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored a power-play goal from Serratore at the 16:45 mark of the second period.
Derek Loisel (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) scored a power-play goal from
Jamison Wicks (FY, Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge HS) and
David Hines (SR, Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) at the 2:48 mark of the third period, and Serratore followed 44 seconds later with a goal from
Scott Eberline (SO, Novi, Mich.).
Jascha Pettit scored two goals for the Johnnies, while John Gross, Alex Ramsgard and Michael Palmiscno had a goal and assist each. John Haeg had two assists for St. John's.
St. John's outshot Augsburg by a 35-24 margin.
Justin Lochner (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 23 saves in goal for the Auggies, with Casey O'Connor (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) collecting seven saves in relief. Tony Civello had 21 saves in goal for St. John's.
McClellan had six shots on-goal for Augsburg, with Serratore contributing five shots.
John Lennartson (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) had three shots.
Augsbure returns to action the weekend of Dec. 2-3, facing Gustavus Adolphus. Augsburg plays at Gustavus on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:05 p.m., while the Auggies host the Gusties on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:05 p.m.
