ST. CLOUD, Minn. --
Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) scored two goals and had an assist, leading Augsburg College to a 5-4 victory over the College of St. Benedict in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Friday night at the Municipal Athletic Complex.
Hennessy had an assist on a goal in the second period, then added unassisted goals at the 9:06 mark and 16:19 mark of the third period for the Auggies.
Erica Berthold (JR, Issaquah, Wash.),
Nicole Gorr (JR, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South HS) and
Kendall Christian (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) also scored goals for the Auggies.
Augsburg is now 3-1-1 overall, 2-1-0 in MIAC play -- Augsburg's best start to a season after five games since the 2004-05 season, when it started 3-0-2, eventually starting 4-0-2 en route to a 13-10-3 finish.
Catherine Pollock opened the scoring for St. Benedict with a goal from Allyson Nielsen at the 5:39 mark of the first period, but Berthold tied the game with a goal from
Casey Miller (FY, Bemidji, Minn.) and
Katie Lamirande (SR, Cloquet, Minn.) at the 13:10 mark.
Augsburg scored twice in the second period to take a 3-1 lead, with Gorr scoring from
Jessica Larkin (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and
Jeanna Dudley (JR, Lindenhurst, Ill./Lakes Community HS), and Christian scoring from Hennessy and
Jess Geisinger (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS).
St. Benedict took the lead with three goals in the first 5:42 of the third period -- Annie Gorman scoring from Pollock at the 2:19 mark, Amie Ernst scoring from Christine Brodersen and Kelly Fladebo at the 5:04 mark, and Ashley Olson scoring from Megan Brettingen at the 5:42 mark. But Hennessy's two unassisted goals lifted the Auggies to the win.
The Auggies will attempt to sweep the MIAC series on Saturday (11/19) at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
