Auggies suffer overtime setback

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- Augsburg College scored the first three goals of the game, but the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point rallied for a 4-3, overtime victory in a nonconference men's hockey game on Friday evening at K.B. Willett Arena.

The Pointers (2-2-0 overall) scored the game-winning goal 32 seconds into overtime to topple the visiting Auggies (1-2-0 overall).

Trevor Doden (SR, Red WIng, Minn.) opened the scoring for Augsburg with an unassisted goal at the 16:26 mark of the first period, and another unassisted goal from George Jackson (FY, Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley HS) at the 3:51 mark of the second period gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead. Tim Serratore (SO, Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek HS) scored for Augsburg at the 8:49 mark of the second period, assisted by Jamison Wicks (FY, Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge HS).

The Pointers rallied with a second-period, power-play goal by Jon Bockmann, and two goals in a 1:11 span late in the third period, from Nick Kenney and Kyle Politz. Kevin Gibson scored the game-winning goal for the Pointers at the 32-second mark of overtime.

The Pointers outshot the Auggies by a 47-20 margin, including a 26-8 advantage in the third period and overtime. Justin Lochner (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 43 saves for Augsburg, while Brandon Jaeger had 17 saves for Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (11/5) at 7 p.m., with a nonconference game at defending NCAA Division III national champion St. Norbert (Wis.) in De Pere, Wis.
