BOXSCORE ROSEVILLE, Minn. --
Brittany Zins (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) led the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 61-51 victory over Northwestern College-Roseville in a nonconference contest on Saturday night.
Zins led Augsburg (4-3 overall) offensively scoring a team-high 15 points, while adding eight rebounds, three blocked shots and three steals. Zins has now scored in double figures in six of the teams seven contests this season. Twelve different Auggies saw action in the contest and eight factored into the scoring.
Northwestern (3-6 overall) was led by the duo of Mollie Sir and Chanel Madson, who finished with 17 and 14 points respectively.
After seven minutes of play, both teams were tied at 11-11. Augsburg's
Abbey Luger (FY, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) came off the bench and connected on a three-pointer that sparked a 13-0 run for the Auggies and shifted the momentum. Augsburg extended its lead to as many as 19 before taking a 37-21 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
The Auggies continued with the defensive pressure in the second-half, and despite the Eagles connecting on 5-of-6 from beyond the arc, were able to hold off Northwestern and claim the 61-51 nonconference victory.
For the game, Augsburg shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59), while the Ealges connected on 43.6 percent (17-of-39) of their shots. The Auggies claimed an impressive 35-26 advantage on the boards and forced 30 Northwestern turnovers, while posting a season-high 18 steals.
Augsburg returns to action on Monday (12/19) when it travels to Mount Vernon, Iowa to take on Cornell College in a nonconference contest starting at 6 p.m.
