Jamison Wicks (FY, Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge HS) scored for Augsburg College, but the Gustavus Adolphus College men's hockey team claimed a 4-1 victory over the host Auggies in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Wicks scored at the 13:28 mark of the third period from
David Hines (SR, Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) for Augsburg (3-6-0 overall, 1-3-0 MIAC), cutting the Gustavus (4-4-2 overall, 3-3-0 MIAC) lead to 3-1. But the Gusties connected on an empty-net goal in the final minute to cap the scoring.
Gustavus took advantage of a five-minute major penalty midway through the second period, with Patrick Hurley (SO, Dellwood, Minn./Duluth Marshall HS) scoring twice. Jack Walsh (FY, Mahtomedi, Minn.) scored a power-play goal in the third period to give the Gusties a 3-0 lead, and Dane Erickson (SO, Woodbury, Minn.) scored the Gusties' empty-net goal. Walsh had a goal and an assist, and Ross Ring-Jarvi (SR, Anoka, Minn.) and Ryan Johnson (SO, Blaine, Minn.) had two assists each.
Gustavus outshot Augsburg by a 39-37 margin.
Justin Lochner (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 35 saves in goal for Augsburg, while John McLean (FY, Eagan, Minn.) had 36 saves for Gustavus.
Trevor Doden (SR, Red Wing, Minn.) and
Loren Egan (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) had six shots on-goal each for Augsburg, while
Ben McClellan (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had four shots.
Augsburg is now idle until Dec. 30-31, when it faces Lawrence (Wis.) in a nonconference series at Ed Saugestad Rink. The Friday, Dec. 30 game is at 7:05 p.m., and the Saturday, Dec. 31 game is at 4:05 p.m.
