Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) led Augsburg College to a 62-41 win over Concordia College-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall. With the win, the Auggies move to 3-0 overall (2-0 MIAC), while the Cobbers fall to 3-2 overall (1-1 MIAC).
Levine nearly posted the rare triple-double, finishing with 12 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and five steals to lead the Augsburg in all categories. Also finishing in double-figures for Augsburg was
Brittany Zins (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS),
Kendra Ware (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) and
Brittany Dyshaw (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS). Zins finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Ware came off the bench to spark the Auggies with a career-high 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor. Dyshaw finished the afternoon with 10 points and seven rebounds on a solid 5-of-9 shooting night.
Concordia was led by the duo of Tricia Sorensen and Emily Thesing. Sorensen finished with 16 points, four rebounds and three steals, while Thesing claimed 10 boards, nine points and three steals.
Augsburg led the game from start to finish, breaking a five-year, 10-game losing streak with the victory. The Auggies scored the first four points of the game and used solid defense and a balanced offensive attack to keep the Cobbers out of rythm. Augsburg outscored Concordia 9-2 over the final three minutes of the first half and took a 31-20 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
The tough Augsburg defense continued to fluster the Cobbers in the second half, as the Auggies were able to extend their lead to as many as 24 before cruising on to the 62-41 win.
For the game, Augsburg shot 46.0 percent (23-of-50), while Concordia was held to just 28.8 percent (17-of-59). The Auggies claimed a 38-33 advantage on the boards and were able to convert on 12-of-15 from the charity stripe, while holding the Cobbers to just 2-of-2.
