Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) scored both Augsburg College goals, but the Auggies dropped a 7-2 decision to host Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey contest on Saturday afternoon at the Don Roberts Ice Rink.
Augsburg's (3-4-1 overall, 2-4-0 MIAC) Hennessy scored in the second period from
Diana Bocklund (JR, Pine Springs, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), then scored in the third period from
Jess Geisinger (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and
Jessica Larkin (JR, Lakevile, Minn./Lakeville South HS).
Hennessy now has 11 goals on the season -- currently tied for the lead among NCAA Division III players nationally in goals, according to the
Collegehockeystats.net website. Her 1.62 points per-game (13 points -- 11 goals, two assists) currently stands 11th in the nation among Division III players.
Gustavus (8-0-0 overall, 6-0-0 MIAC), the No. 7-ranked team outshot Augsburg by a 64-8 margin, including a 25-1 margin in the third period. Seven different players scored goals for the Gusties, with Amanda Cartony and Kelsey Kennedy scoring a goal with two assists each.
Alex Hall (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) collected a career-high 57 saves in goal for the Auggies.
Augsburg returns to action next Saturday (1/10) at 1 p.m., with a nonconference game against St. Benedict at the Delano (Minn.) Area Sports Arena.
