MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College claimed a 40-31 advantage in shots-on-goal, but a Lawrence University goal 2:40 into overtime gave the Vikings a 1-0 victory over the host Auggies in a nonconference men's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Matt Hughes (SR, Goodrich, Mich.) scored the lone goal of the game for Lawrence (5-5-3 overall) at the 2:40 mark of overtime, assisted by Brad Scurfield (JR, Midland, Mich.) and Erik Soderlund (FY, San Diego, Calif.).
Justin Lochner (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) claimed 30 saves in goal for Augsburg (4-7-0 overall), while Peter Emery (FY, Goleta, Calif.) had 40 saves for Lawrence.
David Hines (SR, Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) had five shots-on-goal for Augsburg, while #B.J. McClellan# (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had four shots, as did
Trevor Doden (SR, Red Wing, Minn.).
Brandon Bukowski (SR, Superior, Wis.),
Scott Eberline (SO, Novi, Mich.),
Daniel Hildebrandt (FY, Monument, Colo./Pine Creek HS) and #J.P. Perpich# (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had three shots each.
Augsburg returns to nonconference play next weekend. Next Friday (1/6) at 7:05 p.m., the Auggies host Wisconsin-Superior at Ed Saugestad Rink. Next Saturday (1/7) at 7:05 p.m., the Auggies face St. Scholastica at the Rosemount (Minn.) Community Center. Lawrence returns to action on Jan. 13-14 with a series at Adrian (Mich.).
