BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS --
Kendra Ware (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) scored a career-high 13 points but it wasn't enough as the Augsburg College women's basketball team suffered a 58-48 loss to Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.
Augsburg (3-2 overall, 2-2 MIAC) was led by Ware, who finished with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor, while adding three rebounds and a steal.
Brittany Zins (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) nearly posted her second double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds, while
Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) added a game-high five assists.
Gustavus (5-2 overall, 3-1 MIAC) was led offensively by Eli Benz and Kelsey Florian, who finished with 12 and 11 points respectively. Abby Rothenbuehler finished with a game-high 11 rebounds for the Gusties.
Augsburg began the game on a 12-4 run in what proved to be a very competitive first half of basketball. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half but Augsburg's Levine was able to convert on a layup with one second to play to in the half as the Auggies trailed 26-23 at the intermission.
Abbey Luger (FY, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) hit a three-pointer at the 15:13 mark to make the score 35-33 in favor of the Gusties and Zins would convert on a layup on the next possession to keep within two but that was as close as the Auggies could get as Gustavus held on for the win.
For the game, Augsburg shot 35.4 percent (17-of-48) from the field, while Gustavus converted on 38.3 percent (18-of-47) of its shots. The Auggies were outrebounded by a 39-31 margin and were only able to convert on 11-of-19 from the charity stripe.
Augsburg and Gustavus both return to action on Saturday with Augsburg traveling to Northfield to take on St. Olaf College and Gustavus playing host to the College of Saint Benedict.
