Auggies end season with loss to Gusties

MINNEAPOLIS -- Elise Hedlund (SR, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS), playing in her final collegiate game, scored the lone goal for Augsburg College in an 8-1 loss to No. 7-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Hedlund scored her third goal of the season at the 5:51 mark of the second period, assisted by Diana Bocklund (SO, Pine Springs, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) and Jessica Larkin (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS).

Grace Edgar (SR, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS) collected 45 saves in goal, with Alex Hall (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) stopping 13 shots in relief in the third period for Augsburg (3-19-1 overall, 1-16-1 MIAC).

Amanda Cartony (FY, Stillwater, Minn.) scored two goals and had an assist, and Melissa Doyle (FY, White Bear Lake, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) scored two goals for Gustavus (19-3-3 overall, 14-2-2 MIAC). In all, 14 different Gusties figured in the scoring.

The Gusties outshot the Auggies by a 66-9 margin, with Marah Sobczak (FY, Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) starting and collecting three saves, and Katherine Jorgenson (FY, Colleyville, Texas/Kent School) collecting five saves in relief.

Kirstin Peterson (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray HS), Jenna Christensen (SO, Albert Lea, Minn.), Lisa Tuuri (FY, Woodbury, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Maggie Bergh (FY, Eden Prairie, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret HS) also scored goals for Gustavus, and Mollie Carroll (JR, Eagan, Minn.) and Lindsey Hjelm (SO, North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View HS) had two assists each.

Erin Leyden (SR, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) had three shots on goal for the Auggies.

Eight Auggie seniors were honored in their final collegiate hockey games -- Hedlund, Edgar, Leyden, Jenna Knudtson (SR, Austin, Minn.), Kressi Lehn (SR, Rogers, Minn.), Whitney Pratt (SR, Mitchell, S.D.), Hillary Volkman (SR, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) and Carly Facchini (SR, Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS).
