Auggies fall to Cobbers

BOXSCORE

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (JR, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) led Augsburg with 14 points and game-high nine rebounds, nearly posting his fourth double-double of the year, but it wasn't enough as the Augsburg College men's basketball team fell 81-68 to Concordia College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Memorial Auditorium.

Also finishing in double figures for Augsburg (12-10 overall, 7-10 MIAC) was Cory Polta (JR, Spring Lake Park, Minn.) and Ben Flavin (JR, Lakeville, Minn./North HS), who finished with 11 points apiece.

Concordia (13-9 overall, 9-8 MIAC) was led by Andrew Martinson, who scored a game-high 16 points and added four assists and two rebounds.

After trailing 40-31 at the half, the Auggies started the second half on a 12-2 run, taking a 43-42 lead with just over 15 minutes to play. Concordia countered with an 11-2 run of their own to go back up by ten. Augsburg cut the Cobber lead to two off a three-pointer by Flavin at the 9:14 mark and would be within a two with 6:21 left but couldn't overcome Concordia as they held on for the win over the Auggies.

Augsburg finished the game shooting 51.0 percent (25-of-49), while Concordia connected on 46.7 percent (28-of-60) of its shots. The Cobbers claimed a 32-27 advantage on the boards but the real difference in the game came from beyond the arc. Concordia hit 12-of-32, while Augsburg was only able to hit 5-of-14.

Augsburg and Concordia both return to action on Saturday (1/12) with Augsburg hosting Bethel in a men's and women's doubleheader, while Concordia travels to Collegeville to take on Saint John's.
