Auggies 1-1 on second day of invite

The Augsburg College volleyball team went 1-1 on the second day of the 30th annual Augsburg Volleyball Invitational on Saturday at Si Melby Hall. Augsburg is now 5-4 on the season.

Setter Emily McCourt (SO, Sun Prairie, Wis.) was named to the All-Tournament Team for the invitational. She compiled 125 assists (7.81 per-set), 10 service aces and four blocks (one solo) on the weekend. Her 10 service aces were second-most among all players in the tournament.

After digging a hole early in the first set, Augsburg responded to win an exciting five-set match against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Augsburg (5-3) responded to win the second and third sets, as well as an intense fifth-set against the Pointers (5-4).

For Augsburg, Colleen Ourada (SO, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) led the offensive attack, as she recorded a team-high 10 kills and four blocks. Teammate Micha Sater (JR, Fridley, Minn./Centennial HS) added nine kills and eight digs, while Jamila Lee (JR, Richfield, Minn.) recorded eight kills and a service ace.

Maggie Zirk (JR, Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) recorded seven kills and three blocks for the Auggies, while teammate Nikolene Miller (JR, Tomahawk, Wis.) added six kills and two blocks.

Augsburg setter Emily McCourt (SO, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded 36 assists in the match, to go along with five service aces and eight digs.

Defensive specialist Mackensie Menke (FY, Prior Lake, Minn./Shakopee HS) had one of her best performances of the season, as she recorded a team-high and career-best 12 digs in the match. Katelyn Berens (SO, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and Morgan Baumgarten (SO, Dunlap, Ill.) each added eight digs for Augsburg.

Coming off a tough five-set win against Wisconsin-Stevens Point in their first game of the day, Augsburg fell in straight sets to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Gustavus in the fifth-place match.

The Auggies were led by Jamila Lee and Maggie Zirk, who each recorded a team-high eight kills in the match. Zirk added eight digs and one block, while hitting .429 in the match.

Augsburg middle hitter Nikolene Miller added seven kills and two blocks for Augsburg against the Gusties. For the tournament, Miller recorded 29 kills and a team-high 13 blocks.

Setter Emily McCourt recorded 23 assists in the match to bring her tournament total to 125 over the two-day event. McCourt also recorded a team-high 10 aces in the tournament. Katelyn Berens recorded a team-high 19 digs in the match.

Augsburg will return to action in their conference home opener against Wednesday (9/14) against St. Benedict at Si Melby Hall. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and a live video feed will be available online.
