Auggies fall 2-1 to Falcons

BOXSCORE BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS -- Bri Clark (JR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) scored her team-high fifth goal of the season in the first half for Augsburg College, but two goals in the first four minutes of the second half gave the University of Wisconsin-River Falls a 2-1 victory in a nonconference women's soccer game on Wednesday at Edor Nelson Field.

Clark scored on a header off a corner kick by Courtney Gamrath (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) in the 18th minute for Augsburg (3-3-1 overall).

But Wisconsin-River Falls (2-5-0 overall) scored twice in the first 4:58 of the second half, with Eryn Lansverk (SR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) scoring on a rebound after an Alex Swatloski (FY, Green Bay, Wis./East HS) shot hit the crossbar at the 46:36 mark, and Alyssa Manor (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) scored off a feed from Janae Baron (JR, Hermantown, Minn.) at the 48:58 mark.

"Credit River Falls, they came out strong in the second half and got two quick goals to change the game around," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Overall, we looked very good at times tonight, but at this level you have to be prepared to play and we were slow to start the second half and River Falls took advantage."

Wisconsin-River Falls outshot Augsburg by a 19-14 margin, including a 12-7 advantage in the second half. Katie Gajewski (SO, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) had seven saves in goal for the Auggies, while Rebecca Kramer (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) had seven saves for the Falcons.

Clark, Carly Reimer (JR, Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) and Olivia Muyres (FY, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) had three shots each for the Auggies.

Wednesday's game capped a five-game homestand for the Auggies. Augsburg has its next five games on the road, starting on Saturday (9/24) at 1 p.m. with a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at St. Thomas.

"Now we enter a very difficult stretch of road games that will surely test us, starting with Saturday's match at St. Thomas," Navarre said. "We will regroup and play hard the whole game on Saturday."
