Brianna Schulz (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) collected 49 saves in goal for Augsburg College, as the Auggies claimed a 2-2 overtime tie with the College of St. Scholastica in a nonconference women's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Jessica Larkin (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and
Sara Rajewsky (FY, Murdock, Minn./Benson HS) scored goals for Augsburg (5-4-3 overall) in the draw.
But St. Scholastica (9-3-2 overall) tied the game with two third-period goals, a goal from Michelle Fischer (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) at the 15:50 mark and an extra-attacker goal from Courtney Esse (SO, Cloquet, Minn.) as regulation time expired.
Schulz saved the game for the Auggies in overtime, when she made a save on a penalty shot by St. Scholastica's Briget Cojocar (SO, Limerick, Saskatchewan/Lafleche HS) with 2:35 remaining in the extra session.
St. Scholastica outshot Augsburg by a 51-15 margin. Schulz's 49 saves was a collegiate career-high, and the third time she has recorded 40-plus saves in a game for the Auggies this season. Sheridan Friesen (FY, Winnipeg, Manitoba) had 13 saves for St. Scholastica.
Augsburg took an early lead, as Larkin scored her third goal of the season from
Devon Ellena (SO, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) at the 4:56 mark of the first period. The Auggies took a 2-0 lead at the 8:46 mark of the third period, when Rajewsky stole the puck and skated in for a breakaway goal, her third marker of the season.
Fischer scored from Alex Blair (FY, Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) and Monika Waidacher (SO, Arosa, Switzerland) at the 15:50 mark of the third period, and Esse scored on a scramble in front of the net, assisted by Brenna Flatley (SO, Minnetonka, Minn.) at the 19:59 mark.
The teams complete the nonconference series on Sunday (1/15) at 3 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
