Alex Hall (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) claimed 44 saves in goal for Augsburg College, and
Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) scored her 15th goal of the season early in the third period, as the Auggies scored a 1-1 overtime tie with the College of St. Scholastica in a nonconference women's hockey game on Sunday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Making her third start in goal this season, Hall stopped 44 of the 45 shots she faced in the game, marking her sixth game with 40 or more saves in her 16 collegiate starts for Augsburg (5-4-4 overall).
Hennessy scored her 15th goal of the season at the 1:29 mark of the third period, scoring from
Emerson Ball (SO, Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Kendall Christian (FY, Moorhead, Minn.). Her 15 goals this year are currently second, behind the 16 goals from Julie Fortier of Norwich (Vt.), among
NCAA Division III women's hockey players nationally, according to the Collegehockeystats.net website. Hennessy currently stands second nationally in goals per-game (1.15), and her 15 goals and 19 points (1.46 points per-game) are both tops among NCAA Division III rookies nationwide. Her 15 goals are also
tops among Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players in overall statistics.
Just 13 seconds after Hennessy's goal, St. Scholastica (9-3-3 overall) tied the game, as Briget Cojocar (SO, Limerick, Saskatchewan/Lafleche HS) scored an unassisted goal at the 1:42 mark.
St. Scholastica outshot Augsburg by a 45-18 margin in the game. Shannon Connolly (FY, Toronto, Ontario) made 17 saves in goal for Augsburg.
Hennessy and
Sara Rajewsky (FY, Murdock, Minn./Benson HS) had three shots-on-goal each for Augsburg, while
Katie Lamirande (SR, Cloquet, Minn.) and
Erica Berthold (JR, Issaquah, Wash.) had two shots each.
Both teams return to conference action next weekend. Augsburg faces Hamline in an MIAC series, with Friday's (1/20) game at 7 p.m at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum in St. Paul, Minn., and next Saturday's (1/21) game at 2 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink. St. Scholastica has a two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series at Wisconsin-Stevens Point next Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (2:30 p.m.).
