Auggies drop 5-0 decision to Pipers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Goalie Alex Hall (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) collected 25 saves in goal, but her Augsburg College women's hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Jordan Verleye (FY, Detroit, Mich.) scored twice for Hamline (6-7-2 overall, 2-5-1 MIAC), while Jessica Kraus (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./South St. Paul HS) had a goal and an assist. Sam Berger (FY, St. Paul, Minn.) and Jackie Brigl (JR, Roseville, Minn.) also scored for the Pipers. Ashley Maskel (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) had two assists.

Hamline outshot Augsburg (5-6-4 overall, 2-6-0 MIAC) by a 30-29 margin in the game. Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) had eight shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Kendall Christian (FY, Moorhead, Minn.), Casey Miller (FY, Bemidji, Minn.) and Sandra Hinz (JR, Stockholm, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium HS) had three shots each.

Nicole Jones (SR, Mora, Minn.) stopped all 29 shots she faced to claim the shutout win for the Pipers.

Both teams return to MIAC play next weekend, as Augsburg faces St. Mary's and Hamline faces St. Benedict. The Auggies host St. Mary's on Friday (1/27) at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink, and travel to Winona to face the Cardinals next Saturday (1/28) at 2 p.m.
