Auggies fall 3-1 to Yellowjackets

MINNEAPOLIS -- Derek Loisel (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) scored a second-period power-play goal for Augsburg College, but the University of Wisconsin-Superior scored three unanswered goals to claim a 3-1 nonconference men's hockey win over the host Auggies on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Justin Lochner (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) claimed 36 saves in goal for Augsburg (4-8-0 overall), which was outshot by a 39-27 margin in the game.

Kyle Leahy (JR, Fort St. John, British Columbia) had a goal and assist for Wisconsin-Superior (8-4-2 overall), the No. 14-ranked team in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online Division III national poll. Pat Dalbec (SO, Superior, Wis.) and Cody Hotchkin (FY, Duluth, Minn.) scored third-period goals for the Yellowjackets, and Joey Massingham (SO, Duncan, British Columbia) adn Jeff Forsythe (SO, Campbell River, British Columbia) had two assists each. Drew Strandberg (SO, Thunder Bay, Ontario) had 26 saves in goal for the Yellowjackets.

The Auggies scored the first goal of the game at the 1:31 mark of the second period, just 33 seconds into the first power play of the game. Loisel scored from Landon Olson (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Duluth Marshall HS) and Daniel Hildebrandt (FY, Monument, Colo./Pine Creek HS).

Wisconsin-Superior tied the game at the 13:53 mark of the second period, on Leahy's power-play goal from Forsythe and Massingham. The Yellowjackets scored twice in the third period, with Dalbec scoring from Leahy and Massingham 31 seconds into the period, and Hotchkin scoring the final goal of the game at the 14:51 mark from Tyler Klein (SO, Fargo, N.D.) and Forsythe.

John Lennartson (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) and Ben McClellan (FY, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had four shots-on-goal for Augsburg, while Niklas Almstrom (SO, Medina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS), Thomas Paine (FY, Superior, Wis./Duluth Marshall HS) and Scott Eberline (SO, Novi, Mich.) had three shots each.

Both teams return to action on Saturday (1/7) at 7:05 p.m. with nonconference games. Augsburg faces St. Scholastica at the Rosemount (Minn.) Community Center Ice Arena, while Wisconsin-Superior travels to face Gustavus in St. Peter, Minn.
