Rachel Hennessy (FY, Williston, N.D.) scored two goals and added an assist, figuring in all three goals in Augsburg College's 3-1 victory over Marian University in a nonconference women's hockey game on Sunday afternoon at the Blueline Ice Center.
The forward line of Hennessy,
Kendall Christian (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) and
Sara Rajewsky (FY, Murdock, Minn./Benson HS) figured in each of Augsburg's (5-4-2 overall) three goals. Rajewsky had a goal and assist, while Christian had two assists.
Hennessy now has 14 goals on the season, tied with Julie Fortier of Norwich (Vt.) and Kolbee McCrea of the Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology for the most goals among NCAA Division III players nationally,
according to the Collegehockeystats.net website. Hennessy ranks second nationally in goals per-game (1.27), a total that is tops
among Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players (overall statistics).
Hennessy has had either a goal or assist in 10 of her first 11 collegiate games, including five multi-goal/multi-point efforts.
Hennessy opened the scoring at the 17:20 mark of the first period, scoring a shorthanded goal from Christian. Just 1:19 after the opening goal, the Auggies struck again, as Rajewsky scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Christian and Hennessy.
Marian (0-12-1 overall) got on the scoreboard at the 4:08 mark of the second period, with Devan Lesch scoring from Kaitlyn Johnson and Megan Sesing-Gomoll. But the Auggies capped the scoring at the 6:53 mark of the frame, as Hennessy scored from Rajewsky and
Diana Bocklund (JR, Pine Springs, Minn./Mahtomedi HS).
Both teams had 35 shots-on-goal in the game, with Auggie goalie
Brianna Schulz (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) collecting 34 saves. Amanda Alexander had 32 saves for Marian.
Augsburg hosts St. Scholastica in a nonconference series next weekend at Ed Saugestad Rink, with next Saturday's (1/14) game at 7 p.m. and next Sunday's (1/15) game at 3 p.m.
