Auggies closes out season with sweep

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Emily McCourt (JR, Sun Prairie, Wis.) claimed a match-best 42 assists and added five digs, as the Augsburg College volleyball team earned a three-set sweep (25-14, 25-13, 25-21) over the University of Minnesota-Morris in the Auggies final contest of the regular season Saturday evening at Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg (16-12 overall) controlled the match from the start, earning wins in the first and second sets. UM-Morris (20-8 overall) took an early lead in the third set and led 19-16 late in the set. But the Auggies responded, winning nine of the final 11 points to close out the set and earn the match victory. The win marks the fourth consecutive year that Augsburg has reached the 16-win plateau, including every year during head coach Jane Becker's tenure at Augsburg. 

Nikolene Miller (SR, Tomahawk, Wis.) and Ashley Peper (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) both claimed a 14 kills, while Peper added a team-high 11 digs. Miller hit .480 for the match and added one block, while Micha Sater (SR, Fridley, Minn./Centennial HS) added nine kills and three digs for Augsburg.

Jamila Lee (SR, Richfield, Minn.) added five kills and three blocks, while Lauren Butler (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Prior Lake HS) added three kills and five digs.

Emma Sievers (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and Mackensie Menke (SO. Prior Lake, Minn./Shakopee HS) added 10 digs and one service ace each.

For the Cougars, Emily Auch (SO, Benson, Minn.) recorded 12 kills and seven digs, while Abby Tietz (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) added 11 kills and one block.

The match marked the final collegiate contest for Augsburg seniors Lauren Butler, Jamila Lee, Nikolene Miller and Micha Sater. The quartet finished their Augsurg careers as one of the most accomplished senior classes in recent history, recording 64 match wins and two MIAC post-season playoff appearances.
