MINNEAPOLIS -- With 11 different players figuring in the scoring, the Augsburg College men's hockey team claimed a 4-1 victory over the Norway Under-18 National Team in an exhibition game on Tuesday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
#B.J. McClellan# (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS),
Tim Serratore (JR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek HS),
Loren Egan (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) and
Zach Blaisdell (FY, Buffalo, Minn.) scored for Augsburg in the exhibition victory.
The game is an exhibition for Augsburg, and will not count for team records or individual/team statistics. The Norway Under-18 National Team will play at St. Olaf on Wednesday (10/31) at 7:30 p.m., before competing at the Bauer National Invitational Tournament this Friday to Sunday (11/2-4) in New Hope, Minn.
McClellan opened the scoring for the Auggies one minute into the second period, scoring from
Thomas Paine (SO, Superior, Wis./Duluth (Minn.) Marshall HS) and
Ben McClellan (SO, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS). Serratore scored a power-play goal at the 10:07 mark of the second period, scoring from
Lucas Hendrickson (FY, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) and
Niklas Almstrom (JR, Medina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS).
The Auggies scored twice in the third period. Egan scored at the 5:16 mark, assisted by
George Jackson (SO, Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley HS) and
Zach Dick (SO, Grand Rapids, Minn.), and Blaisdell scored at the 18:49 mark, assisted by
Mack Ohnsted (FY, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS).
The Norwegian squad scored at the 8:18 mark of the third period, when Martin Olav Ronnild scored an unassisted goal on a breakaway.
Augsburg outshot Norway by a 35-15 margin.
John Bretzman (SO, Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced for Augsburg, while Sander Rene Berg collected 20 saves in the first two periods for Norway, with Theodor Hestnes claiming 11 saves in the third period.
Augsburg continues its homestand at Ed Saugestad Rink this weekend, hosting St. Norbert (Wis.) on Friday (11/2) at 8 p.m., and hosting Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday (11/3) at 7:05 p.m.
