Rachel Hennessy (SO, Williston, N.D.) claimed her first goal of the season for Augsburg College, and goalie
Brianna Schulz (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) collected 40 saves in goal, as the Auggies scored a 1-1, overtime tie with the College of St. Benedict in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Augsburg (1-5-1 overall, 0-2-1 MIAC) was outshot by a 41-30 mark by St. Benedict (1-2-3 overall, 0-2-1 MIAC), including a 36-20 margin during the final two periods of regulation and overtime. The Blazers outshot Augsburg by an 8-3 mark in overtime. But Schulz claimed 40 saves -- her eighth 40-plus save game of her 24-game collegiate career -- to score the draw.
Hennessy, who led the Auggies with 20 goals last season, claimed her first goal of the year with a tally from
Claire Cripps (FY, Hutchinson, Minn.) at the 5:07 mark of the first period. St. Benedict tied the game 47 seconds into the third period, when Alli O'Brien (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) scored an unassisted goal.
Jenna Traut (SO, St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo HS) had 29 saves in goal for St. Benedict.
Hennessy had five shots on-goal for Augsburg, while
Kayla Fuechtmann (FY, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) had four shots.
Kendall Christian (SO, Moorhead, Minn.),
Megan Bergland (FY, Thief River Falls, Minn.) and
Jessica Larkin (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had three shots apiece.
The teams conclude the weekend series on Saturday (11/17) at 2 p.m. at the Municipal Athletic Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
