BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS --
Tim Serratore (JR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek HS) and
Loren Egan (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, but top-ranked St. Norbert College rallied for a 3-2 overtime victory in a nonconference men's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Tyler Zepeda (FY, Woodbury, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal 1:31 into overtime for St. Norbert (4-0-0 overall), the top-ranked team in the U.S. College Hockey Online Division III national poll and winners of the last two NCAA Division III national titles.
Augsburg (1-2-0 overall) held pace with the Green Knights and took the lead twice in the game, before St. Norbert rallied for the win. St. Norbert outshot Augsburg by a 28-24 margin, but Augsburg goalie
Justin Lochner (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) came up with 25 saves. Travis Bosch (JR, Regina, Saskatchewan) had 22 saves for St. Norbert.
The Auggies took the lead at the 14:25 mark of the first period, when Serratore scored an unassisted goal, his first marker of the season. Cullen Bradshaw (SO, Medicine Hat, Alberta) tied the game for St. Norbert at the 12:41 mark of the second period, scoring from Joe Perry (JR, Nanaimo, British Columbia) and Kyle Beaulieu (FY, White Rock, British Columbia).
Egan gave the Auggies the lead at the 10:18 mark of the third period, scoring an unassisted, shorthanded goal just 14 seconds into a Green Knight power play. But 1:15 later on the same power play, Brandon Hoogenboom (JR, Nanton, Alberta) tied the game on a goal from Erik Cooper (FY, Anchorage, Alaska) and Zepeda.
Serratore and
Niklas Almstrom (JR, Medina, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) had four shots on-goal each for Augsburg, while Egan and #B.J. McClellan# (JR, Cottage Grove, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) had three shots apiece.
Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (11/3) at 7:05 p.m., hosting Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Ed Saugestad Rink.
